I personally don't remember them from around '74 thank goodness.
Sorry once again but not for me, i dont think we'll be hearing from them again. There was absolutely nothing there, one of the most dull performances i think i've ever seen at a gig.

Got to agree - I was really looking forward to Big Star - but was hugely underwhelmed - I think the comments by the bassiest says it all - they turned up as 'headliners' and expected us to be grateful - and if we didn't like them it was our fault not theirs - played with no passion at all. When speaking to John Wesley Harding the following day he was very suprised that they had been so disappointing as he had been at the Sheperds Bush gig earlier that week and had said they were incredible - maybe they had peaked there and couldn't be arsed at Rhythm - that's how it came across to me

Yup! ...... we're seriously considering making the trek. That is, as long as my big pie hole, speaking out against our beloved "W", hasn't gotten me listed on a "no fly" list or something? As far as warm, flat British Brown Beer goes, sounds no different than the brew we have here in the states - I drink a few beers, start feeling warm, fall down flat and when I come to, notice a bit of brown .... very embarrising! Anyway, I'm sure that next year, The Circus will bring more than adequate supplies of their wares, seeing that you people have so graciously accepted them as Folk Rock Royalty!

PS: And No! ..... a "no fly" list has nothing to do with me trousers but the bit of brown does!

zzorchering wrote:

I presume that when Gandalf Murphy return to Rhythm Fest 2009 (which surely is a dead cert by now!) they will be supported by a sizeable group of Slambovians (& that includes you Old Fart From Hellsdale) - so that we can educate you about our proper British Brown Beer (served slightly warmed & flat - just like Real Ale should be).

Hopefully - some of you could even man a Slambovian coffee stall - & please bring a hell of a lot more CDs & DVDs this time - so that they don't run out!

however-- one point i vehemently oppose to is when you say it is a music festival after all.
well actually--- if you listen to leader jimbobs feelings--- thats not quite correct-- it is in fact a festival for the whole family to enjoy and not just for individuals to get their rocks off at a particular band-- hence the limited number of day tickets.
i take it as you attended a fest 30 yrs ago-- you are old like me--- and as such take the line that the kids can play with a tin can, some sticks and a ball--like we used to do...well for a lot of families-- this aint the case anymore-- and tbh-- the kids entertainment was billed--and therefore should have taken place..... see my 9yr old might hasve preffered the olypics scheduled compared to a bunch of old people playing!
i/we are proud that our kids can socialise with the other festy goers witout spending a bomb and the eldest two were more than happy to potter about playing footy and begging for the occasional £1,50 for an ice-cream (oh I make em beg alright... thirty bob for an ice cream??? with nee monkeys blood on it-- ice cream my arse!)
imo-- these type of fests would be shite without kids and families and therefore their needs should be catered for just as much as the Jefferson Starship appreciation societies.
(mind--overall--i wish i could get shot of the three of our friggin kids so we could have a right good friggin piss session and get wrecked out of our skulls!)

Hey, hey - calm down - so far as I could see (and it was grand to see) all the kids had a great time. I only heard one cryin all weekend and that was just frustration at copping the blame for summat his brother started - don't blame him at all for squawking - I felt like squawking for him meself watching...
Of course I'm speaking from a 'personal point of view' - Derr...
Yeah, I'm 50, if y'call that old - thankfully I'm not that old yet to need a sleep at tea time though...
My apologies - this year was my first time and I understood it was predominantly a music festival - errr... my mistake...?
There were kids racing up and down and loads of other organised activities going on next to the Alternative Stage (was it Saturday? or Sunday? morning, or both? sorry, can't remember) - would that've been your olympics?
I make no apology whatsoever for my enthusing on Jefferson Starship - a band who's music has helped keep me sane for most of my life - and Yeah, I did go to the festival on the basis that a band I love was playing - that's generally what entices me to consider driving 160 miles and sleep in a tent for three nights at a festival I know nothing about.
The band that enticed me was the Saw Doctors.
Love 'em to bits.
Starship & QMS were, I thought, 'the icing on cake'. Turns out that for me, hearing Cathy Richardson sing Gracie like that was much more than icing, but hey, you missed that, and me, I'm still happily awestruck, especially after meeting Paul Kantner...
Gorgeous home-made ice-cream - well worth £1.50 - loved the chocolate one - didya try it yerself?
I find gettin wrecked out of me skull not really worth the bother - haven't done it for years - prefer the chilled-out approach these days...............

Glad you enjoyed it. We been there since the beginning and love it. Organic burgers were there last year - rare breeds stall. Wasn't Steve Cropper superb. We made an executive decision and chose Juicy Luicy instead of Zombies. Whilstr we were very upset about that we did get to see Dani Wilde, see my other post, so all was not lost. Wasn't she just fantastic. We walked up to see Juicy Lucy and were early so I was gonna do my compulsory shopping for dogsitters at home but caught most her set.
BLOWN AWAY and I don't use that phrase. Both her, her brother and the band were really tremendous. Bought both albums but WHY O WHY O WHY do you studio people (you know who you are) feel obliged to 'clean up' the recordings to show us all how marvellous you are. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! It doesn't work - the albums are fantastic but you really don't hear the raw 'balls' power and feeling of her voice as it's been put so far back in the mix. Don't wanna rant on tho cos the album is STILL FANTASTICand you must all buy it! Another Janis with a touch of Bonnie Raitt - STUPENDOUS girl and I hope her San Diego experience is better than those she had in Brighton!! Please don't leave me tho when we've only just found you.

My golly gosh, I thought it was only me and notsobossy Paul who were the only ones who laughed so much I nearly had to avail myself of the water bucket in the tent. Absolutely hilarious - had I had one of your hats on I would have taken it off to him. Do you think it was the superhero, circusmaster with the megaphone?

An excellent end to the festival and watch out for the moo cows and those vegetarians I say. You can't trust them you know ...........
